We are always looking for new people to join our Street Pastor’s Team. Whether you want to get stuck into the practical patrols, or join our Prayer Pastors back at base, we’d love to have you!

Below, we’ve answered a few FAQ’s, about joining the team. But if there’s something we’ve missed that you’d love to know, please do drop us a message, and we’ll be happy to fill in the blanks!

Do I have to be a Christian to Join Street Pastors?

Because we are, at the very core, a Christian organisation, and a lot of our patrol evenings involve praying for Ashford and offering hands-on-prayer if needed, it is essential that you are a practicing Christian and in a local Church. But, Ashford Street Pastors is filled with many volunteers from different walks of life and different churches across the town. So as long as you’re a Christian, and IN a church, we don’t mind which denomination you are!

I’m not a Christian, but I love what you do, how can I support Street Pastors?

Even if you won’t be coming out on patrol with us, you can definitely still support Street Pastors and the impact we have in our town. The biggest way you can support us is by becoming a regular financial supporter. We are entirely funded by regular donations and grants, and so to be able to continue to provide the support to our town, we are always looking for people to commit to giving a minimum of £5 per month. If you would like more information about becoming a financial supporter, click here or get in touch.

If I become a Street Pastor, do I get to choose if I’m out on patrol, or a Prayer Pastor?

You absolutely do get to choose! We know that different people have different gifts, skills and passions, and so whichever side of the fence you land on, you get to tell us which part of the team you’d like to join. (But if you want to, we wouldn’t say no to having you on both teams!)

Do I need training to be a Street Pastor?

Yes you do! We provide all the training you need to become a fully-fledged Street Pastor. We want to give you all the tools you need to manage with both the practical hurdles you might come across out and about, and how to deal with the inter-personal communication you’ll need, to interact with people you’ll meet along the way.

The training is completed over 8 sessions (usually over an 8 month period, depending on the season), and takes place with other regional teams. For more about training, get in touch, and we can talk you through the ins and out.

Do I have to financially give, to be a Street Pastor?

We do ask that you contribute to the training and equipment needed to be a Street Pastor. Whether that’s through a one-off lump sum, or on a monthly basis. For more information about the costs involved, get in touch, and we’ll be happy to chat in more detail about how that looks.

Can I come out and see if I like it before I commit?

Thinking about whether you want to join the team, but need a test-run? We’d love to have you! Get in touch, and we’ll happily arrange to show you the ropes, and see if it’s for you!
