- Safeguarding
One of the reasons Street Pastors has spread so quickly is that volunteers are trained and respected by the public, local authorities and the police.
Trainees do around 40 to 50 hours (including the 2 supervised patrols).
Sometimes the training is on Saturdays, sometimes evenings and sometimes a mixture. We often arrange training together with Antrim & Newtownabbey, Ards & North Down and Lisburn & Castlereagh Street Pastors. There are opportunities to make up missed modules at other locations e.g. Coleraine and Dublin
New Street Pastors also do 2 supervised patrols which are part of the training.
All Street Pastors are trained – to help make sure we do what we say – care, listen and help. The training covers different topics to help prepare us and also involves going out twice on supervised patrols. Before all that you are welcome to come out as an obsever so why not arrange to do that now to help see if this is for you? Observing and doing the training course also helps you and us see if Street Pastors is the right thing for you at this time.
Training is delivered by people who know their topic well and each session is interactive with plenty of discussion, role plays and laughs!
Once people have done Roles and Responsibilities plus any 2 other modules, they can go out on the streets with a commitment to complete the rest of the training over 18 months.
Trained Street Pastors can easily transfer to other Street Pastor schemes around the world!
At the end of the training you and we can decide if Street Pastors is the right thing for you. even if it isn’t, you will benefit from the various modules.
