We currently have a team of  approximately 10 Street Pastors and  15 Prayer Pastors that are on duty throughout the month and we have been  serving our community since 25th May 2012. Prayer is an important part of our service to the community, but many know us for Flip-flops, Hot drinks and lollipops.

We felt led to support our young people, a few years ago, especially the students of Bexhill Academy and even the local primary children got to know us as well as the students at St Richards RC School. We regularly go into schools to take assemblies, where we cover what we do, why we do it and the issue of ‘not taking sweets from strangers’ and the fact that being CRB checked – we can be trusted. Having been supporting the children in our area for six years now, the majority no longer see us as strangers.

Supporting the young people after school for most of the year, does leave us with a problem during INSET days and holidays, as we need to be wherever they are, in order to support them. This also gives us the opportunity to speak to many visiting parents and children who come in to the town to enjoy the facilities locally.

People sometimes ask about our qualifications and as the Coordinator, I am always on duty with my team. I hold a St John Ambulance First Aid at Work, am an ex First aid Instructor and an ex CFR with SECAMB. I am Level 3 Food Hygiene Trained, so am well aware of Allergens. I have undergone much Safeguarding Training and I am an ex secondary school teacher. We work as a team to Care, Listen and Help in our Community.

Do say Hello if you see us out on duty, we’d love to talk to you. We are also on duty every second Saturday evening of the month from 1930-2200 with hot drinks available and biscuits. We also serve in Rye and Camber on the fourth Saturday of the month from 1930 – 2200.
