On some nights there is a shift with little to do. It means we had fewer opportunities for deep conversations but it also means our community was safe, happy, and well. We spent some of the night playing “proactive defense”—clearing hazards to make sure the Saturday night crowds stayed safe without even knowing it.
Patrol Route & Observations:
● First Half: The Centre, Corn Street, St Nicholas Street, Welsh Back, The Harbourside, Millennium Square, and Park Street.
● Waterfront Safety: We noticed a lot of people lingering a bit too close to the water’s edge on the Waterfront. We spent some time gently persuading them away from the edge—with limited success, but it was worth the effort!
● Second Half: A thorough patrol of the Triangle.
● The streets were surprisingly quiet, with very little evidence of people out to watch the World Cup football but maybe it hasn’t got really interesting yet?
There were no homeless individuals to speak of, but it was great to cross paths and catch up briefly with the ARC team.
We have reported to the BID that the street lighting on Canon’s Road is very poor.
Even when it is quiet we still patrol and make a difference.
