We’ve been interviewing some of our volunteer Street Pastors to hear about what being a Street Pastor is really like. This week, we spoke to John.

Hi John! Tell us a bit about yourself:

My name is John, I am married to Elsie, we are both retired. I am a Foundation Governor at our local primary school, and a member of our church PCC. Now we are retired Elsie and I enjoy travelling.

How long have you been involved with Chester Street Pastors?

About 6 years.

What made you decide to become a Street Pastor?

I was asked by two other people from my church who were already Street Pastors if I’d like to be involved, so I said yes.

What skills or abilities do you have that help you as a Street Pastor?

The ability to listen, and I enjoy helping people.

What’s your favourite thing about being a Street Pastor?

Helping and being appreciated by folks out enjoying themselves in Chester.

What would you say to someone who was thinking about becoming a Street Pastor?

Come and join us out on a shift as an observer and see what it is like on the streets.

Thanks John!
