WE NEED YOU!
With funding support received from Dover District Council and Kent County Council, we have launched new daytime patrols in and around Dover. Just a few hours once a month are all that’s involved and full training will be given. So, if you’d like to help in the community, we’d love to hear from you (see the FAQ’s below).
We’re also looking for volunteers to help out at our events by helping us to man our stall and promote our popular Lollipop Challenge.
It goes without saying, we’d love to hear from you if you’d like to join one of our night time patrols too (see below).
Frequently Asked Questions
Below are a few FAQ’s about joining the team. If there’s something we’ve missed that you’d like to know, please do drop us a message, and we’ll be happy to fill in the blanks!
Do I have to be a Christian to be out on patrol as a Steet Pastor or Prayer Pastor?
Because we are, at the very core, a Christian organisation, and a lot of our patrol work involves praying for Dover and offering hands-on-prayer if needed, it is essential that you are a practicing Christian and in a local Church. Dover Street Pastors is filled with many volunteers from different walks of life and different churches across the town, so as long as you’re a Christian, and IN a church, we don’t mind which denomination you are!
I’m not a Christian but I love what you do. How can I support Dover Street Pastors?
We’re always looking to recruit volunteers to help at our fundraising events so do please get in touch if you’ve a few hours to spare. Additionally, the biggest way you can support us is by becoming a regular financial supporter. We are entirely funded by donations and grants, and so to be able to continue to provide the support to our town, we are always looking for people to commit to giving. If you would like to make a donation, please click here to be taken to our Donate page.
If I become a Street Pastor, do I get to choose if I’m out on patrol, or a Prayer Pastor?
You absolutely do get to choose! We know that different people have different gifts, skills and passions, and so whichever side of the fence you land on, you get to tell us which part of the team you’d like to join. (But if you want to, we wouldn’t say no to having you on both teams!)
Do I need any training to become a Dover Street Pastor?
Yes you do. We provide all the training you need to become a fully-fledged Street Pastor. We want to give you all the tools you need to manage both the practical hurdles you might come across out and about, and how to deal with the inter-personal communication you’ll need to interact with people you’ll meet along the way.
For more about training, please drop us a message and we can talk you through everything.
Can I come out and see if I like it before I commit?
Thinking about whether you want to join the team, but need a test-run? Get in touch and we’ll happily arrange to show you the ropes, and see if it’s for you.
