Our Commissioning Service in June 2016 was the start of our journey.

The early months of 2016 were busy preparing for the above day: four Jesmond Churches coming together with Northumbria Police and Jesmond Councilors to form the Urban Trinity; a new Management team formed; and a new Charity set up under the Charities Commission.

Recruitment of Street Pastors delivered a team of TEN who had heard and answered the calling to step out into their community.

Street Pastor Training started soon after recruitment and to date the team have had:
Roles & Responsibilities 1 & 2, Safeguarding, Vulnerable Adults, First Aid, Good News, Mental Health, Probation, Youth Culture, Drugs & Alcohol.

Following discussions with our Management Team, Northumbria Police and Councilors Friday was chosen as our patrol night from 7-30 to 12-00am as all bars close at 11-00, with exception of one, with revelers then moving onto Newcastle or heading home. For summer 2017, learning from last summer’s patrols, we have changed to Saturday night whilst the students are on holiday and will revert to Fridays from September.

We patrol in an area both sides of Osborne Road, Acorn Road, West Jesmond Metro Station, and residential streets which are heavily populated with students.

OUR MAIN ROLE IS TO CARE FOR VULNERABLE PEOPLE.

Since our first patrol, on 24 June 2016, we have:

Patrolled                  57 times

Patrol Hours            879 Voluntary Hours

Cared for                 64 Vulnerable People

Picked/swept up     1591 Glasses/Bottles

Had                         58 Faith Conversations

We have been so well received by those out in the Night Time Economy, it feels such a safe place for us to be. Door Staff and Police have been so welcoming and after our first year we feel part of the team.

The Church on the Streets of Jesmond.

Do you feel called to join us? Would you like to come out on patrol with us first to see for yourself what a wonderful calling it is?

We are also seeking Prayer Pastors who would be willing and committed to praying for our street pastors and for incidents that arise in Jesmond while we are on patrol.
