A Street Pastor is a trained and uniformed member of a local church who wants to serve his or her community. Always working in a group of four, they would patrol an area designated to have a need by the church, local authority or the police. the aim is to engage with the issue and bring God’s peace by listening caring and helping. The age range is from 18 years to and there is no upper limit, both male and female are essential and a good mix of ages is preferred.
Training takes place twice a year for the London teams, March and September and last 8 Saturdays. Topics covered include Roles and Responsibilities, Good News, Drug Awareness, Listening Skills, Knowing Your Community, Mental Health, Police, Youth Culture, Safeguarding, Mentoring and Supervised nights out with a team. The cost of training is £300 per trainee and includes uniform. In Kingston we cover that cost but do ask the volunteer to become a £10 per month giver to cover the costs of future trainees.
So how about you?
