To get a team out on patrol takes organisation and money! To ensure a team can go out the team need to be trained, DBS checked and be insured. Not only that but there has to be at least 5 pieces of uniform given to each volunteer; a cap, a t-shirt, a winter coat, a rain jacket and a fleece. The safety of the team is paramount and so we pay for City Watch radios which means the team is linked to the CCTV in the city and the police. All this comes to £80 a month; the radios alone cost £40. If we can get out 4 teams a month that means it costs us £20 a session so in other words about £5 for a Street Pastor who will patrol for about 5 hours. Not bad for all the work done by the volunteers!!
