Newtown Street Pastors

Street Pastors patrol Newtown (Powys) town centre every Saturday night from 10pm until 2am, providing help and support for anyone who needs it regardless of circumstance.

We help to ensure that people have a good night and get home safely, and, in order to achieve this, we collaborate closely with the door staff and the police.

We focus, in particular, on those who may be vulnerable, whether they are having a night out, “had one or two too many,” or just need to to offload their worries and concerns. We are there with listening ears, caring hands and helping hearts.

We offer a practical, “can do “ approach –  whenever,  whatever, to whomsoever, and without judgement.

We carry space blankets, flip flops, water and give out lollipops. We collect glass bottles and sweep up broken glass from the streets to prevent any injuries during the night.

Newtown Street Pastors, although small in number, are trained volunteers from local Churches and are part of a nationwide team which started in 2003 in Brixton in London. Newtown Street Pastors were commissioned in September 2008.

It’s a privilege to serve the community of Newtown.
