Nottingham Street Pastors

About Us

We are a faith-based organisation with 50 volunteers who regularly patrol the streets of Nottingham City Centre on either a Friday or Saturday night along with a lovely team of Prayer Pastors who support and cover us in prayer each shift. From 30 churches across Nottingham, we have a wonderfully friendly team of volunteers who are all about helping and care for those who are most vulnerable!

Nottingham Street Pastors is a project set up by the Malt Cross Trust in 2010 as a multi-church response to urban night-time problems with the aim to improve Nottingham’s nightlife.

Nottingham is an active and vibrant city with an average of 30,000-40,000 visitors using the city centre’s nightlife every weekend. Over 60 volunteers representing 40 Nottinghamshire churches patrol the streets of Nottingham city centre in teams of three on a Friday and Saturday between the hours of 10pm to 3am to ensure that the vulnerable are cared for and don’t feel alone.

We offer practical, non-judgemental and compassionate help to vulnerable people at risk for their own safety or that of others; if there is an individual in need they will be there on hand with a smile, an ear and a kind word.

By handing out preventative supplies such as water, lollipops and flip flops or providing emergency first-aid, Street Pastors are there to help when someone’s night out takes a turn for the worst.

To relive pressure from door staff, the Police and other emergency services, radio messages are sent directly to the team to enable them to get to an incident as soon as possible.

Whether it be listening to someone who is lonely, someone else under the influence of alcohol and has lost their friend, talking down a fight or signposting the homeless to a support organisation – Street Pastors is all about showing God’s love to the city by providing care and assistance.

We share our experience and expertise to change the landscape of Nottingham’s nightlife through our partnership with the Nottingham Police and Crime Commissioner, the Nottingham Business Improvement District and the Home Office which enables to impact policy and strategy in both the city and nationally.

tHIS PARTNERSHIP WORKING IS KEY TO THE SUCCESS OF THE PROJECT AS IT ENSURES THAT WE PROVIDE RELEVENT SUPPORT THAT BENEFITS ALL WHO WORK IN AND ACCESS THE NIGHT TIME ECONOMY IN NOTTINGHAM.

We are incredibly grateful for funding and support from Nottinghamshire Police, Nottingham BID, Big Lottery Fund and many local Churches in 2019.

We work alongside some amazing organisations in Nottingham who all exist to support local people in a variety of ways. Click on each logo to see what they do in Nottingham!
