We came across a girl, alone and crouching down, sobbing. This had been the first night that she had gone out for some months after a number of operations that she’d had to endure alone. She was very disappointed that none of her family had come down to visit her when she was in hospital. She had also had to leave the course she was studying due to ill health and was very disappointed about that.

To cap it all she hadn’t intended to get drunk that night but had ended up that way; now she was without the friends she had gone out with and it had all become too much at that point.

We gave her some water for which she was grateful and our two ladies took her by the arm and helped her to walk home. She was very grateful for that and said goodnight. Not a major event in the grand scheme of things but it made a difference for the better in her life at the time. “Whatever you did for the least of these……you did it for me” (Matthew 25:40)
