Rugby Street Pastors held their 10th Anniversary Celebration Service, their annual Commissioning Service & AGM at Rugby Railway Club on Sunday 10th November, at which they took the opportunity to invite the Warwickshire Police & Crime Commissioner – Philip Seccombe to enable him to formally present a cheque for £7,981 to Rugby Street Pastors Management Team. The £7,981 award is part of a Commissioner Grant Scheme, which invites bids to fund local projects that support the victims of crime, and help reduce crime and anti-social behaviour. Before presenting the cheque, Philip said: “I am delighted to attend the Rugby Street Pastors Commissioning Service & AGM. I have been on patrol with the Pastors and thoroughly appreciate the work they do to protect vulnerable people at weekends on the streets of Rugby. I am delighted to give them funding to continue this valuable work.”
Also in attendance as a VIP guest was Rugby’s Mayor – Cllr Bill Lewis and Deputy Lord Lieutenant Eric Wood alongside Rev Les Isaac – founder of Street Pastors.
The Mayor Cllr Bill Lewis expressed his admiration for our volunteers and on behalf of Rugby Borough Council thanked us for all our actions. Cllr Bill congratulated us on our 10th Anniversary and wished us well for the coming years.
Dawn Thurkettle, the Rugby Street Pastors’ Coordinator said: “We are very privileged to welcome our new street pastors Lindi, Julie, Alex and Michael into our dedicated team of volunteers from across many churches in Rugby providing the night time economy with our time to listen, care and to help those in need. It is a joy to engage in conversation and assist people in our community.
