Good Friday March of Witness Stamford – Commissioning of new Street Pastors – April 2014
Apr 18 all-day

Stamford Street Pastors deployed in daylight for a change, in support of Stamford Churches Together Easter ‘Walk of Witness’ in Stamford Town on Good Friday. Many of the Team took part at the head and rear of the March. When the march finished outside the Old St. Michael’s Church, High Street it was a great opportunity to ‘Commission’ a new Senior Street Pastor and also a new Street Pastor. Attached photograph shows from left to right; Dot Chambers (Prayer Pastor), John Chambers (Chair Stamford Street Pastors), Street Pastors, Jennie Nicholls, Anne Harker, Amanda Virgo (being Commissioned), Clive Marshall (Prayer Pastor), Lel Nichols (Senior Street Pastor), Mike Freeman (Commissioning on behalf of Street Pastors Nationally), and Sean Loakes (with the lolly!!) who was also Commissioned as a Senior Street Pastor. Where better for it to take place than in the centre of the Town where the Street Pastors patrol every week. They shared their commitment to Stamford Communities and Street Pastors publically.

Stamford Street Pastors patrol the streets of Stamford every Saturday night, usually being out on patrol until around 3:30am. This is in support of crime reductions and the night time communities, this has over the three years they have been operating assisted the Police, South Kesteven Community Safety Partnership and the numerous late night premises staff in Stamford reduce the amount of late night nuisance, public disorder and general crime in the Town.

A typical Saturday night sees the Stamford Street Pastors engaging with everyone, especially those who may have had a bit too much to drink, they check vulnerable people are ok getting home, give out water to re-hydrate folk, provide ‘flip flops’ for females having difficulty negotiating the walk home in ‘high heels’; the latter alone has saved many people from having to attend Hospital with cut feet by trying to walk bare footed and cutting their feet on broken glass that often gets deposited on the pathways. The street pastors also clear away all bottles, glasses and the broken glass from the public footpaths whilst patrolling the Town.

You’ll notice on the photo Sean (far right) with one of the many lollies that Street Pastors give out during the night to revelers; the calming influence this mostly has has to be seen to be believed, have you ever seen anyone shouting whilst sucking a lolly?

With just over 11,000 Street Pastors across the UK they have and continue to support and assist the night time communities in hundreds of Towns and Cities.

Stamford Street Pastors meet the ‘Oakham Women’s Institute‘
Jul 31 all-day

At the end of July Mike Freeman of Stamford Street Pastors gave an overview of the Stamford Street Pastor ministry to about 45 ladies of the Oakham WI at Oakham Castle. It was a good lively meeting that attracted a lot of interest, not just the ‘lollies’ that were given out but several ladies are interested in considering joining the initiative and supporting it.
