St Helens Street Pastors are holding their first commissioning service!

Our first seven volunteers will be formally accepted into the Ascension Trust fold as St Helens Street Pastors, at 6pm on the 11th December 2016 at Ormskirk Street URC Church, St Helens.

The commissioning service will provide an opportunity for members of the Urban Trinity of Churches, Police and Council, along with members of our local community to come along, celebrate getting to this point with us and also learn more about our aim to bring Jesus to the streets of St Helens in a practical way. The Street Pastors ethos is caring, helping and listening which can take many forms in the night time economy.

Sometimes people simply need a kind word, directions to the nearest taxi rank, a bottle of water, a pair of flip flops to ease those tired, aching feet, or perhaps help to find a taxi home. We can offer a listening ear and sign-posting to services that may be able to offer support in everyday life. We are also able to offer prayer if someone feels it would help them in their situation.

We are a group of Christian volunteers who want to share Jesus unconditional love on the streets, supporting vulnerable people at a time when they need it most. We work with anybody who is feeling vulnerable in the local night time economy.

In St Helens we will start patrolling on 23rd December 2016, and then every 2nd and 4th Friday after that until we have recruited and trained enough people to increase patrols to every Friday between 10pm and 4am.
