Summer is here and it’s all change as Street Pastors have moved their patrol nights to Saturday! This is a trial during the summer months to see if there is more need for Street Pastors on a Saturday than on our usual Friday night patrols. The Street Pastor teams never know what they’ll encounter on a patrol, below are a selection of photos taken whilst on patrol, the top two photos were taken during the celebrations of King Charles III’s coronation, they even managed to get included in a photo taken by The Herald with the mayor!

What I Love about being a Street / Prayer Pastor

Our new social media offering celebrates what the Street Pastors and Prayer Pastors love about their roles. Often we talk about the service and help that Street Pastors give to those they meet on patrol, but we never seem to cover why the Street Pastors venture out onto the streets at night and why the Prayer Pastors settle down to pray for the team and town. This series of posts highlights the joy and good feeling that they get from serving our town. Below are two examples, for the whole series follow us on Facebook @StratfordStreetPastors or Twitter @spstratford.

How can I become a Street / Prayer Pastor?

Street Pastors are practising Christians aged over 18 who feel called to step out onto the streets to be the hands and feet of Christ; and also his eyes, ears and mouth too! What Street Pastors are NOT is preachers or converters. Street Pastors are simply there to Listen, Care and Help all of those out in the night time economy without judgment or condemnation. Street Pastors are also DBS checked and trained through the Ascension Trust, attending several hours of training before becoming a full Street Pastor.
Prayer Pastors are practising Christians aged over 18 who feel called to care for their community and support Street Pastors as they are on patrol. Prayer Pastors do not go out on patrol but stay in contact with the team during the patrol and pray for the situations and people that the team encounter. Prayer Pastors may also choose to go to base to pray with the team before the patrol starts. Prayer Pastors are also DBS checked and trained through our prayer co-ordinator.

A glance into how Street Pastors Care, Listen and Help

On passing Bella Pasta, we noticed a family who seemed to be struggling to support an elderly man who was unsteady on his feet. They initially said they didn’t need help and were waiting for a family member to come and collect them. We found a chair from inside the restaurant and helped him sit down until the car arrived a few minutes later, and then helped him into the car. The family members thanked us, and we waved them goodbye as they drove away.

2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power and of love and a sound mind.
