Street Pastors is an inter-denominational Church response to urban problems. Overseen by the Ascension Trust and supported in partnership by the Police, the Borough Council and other statutory agencies, they engage with people on the streets in the night-time economy to care, listen and dialogue.

Street Pastors’ motto is ‘Caring, Helping, Listening’ – and they do exactly that. They are members of Christian churches rolling up their sleeves and getting involved in responding practically to the problems of crime and safety within their communities. The result has been remarkable drops in recorded crime, disorder, drunkenness and anti-social behaviour in areas where the Street Pastor teams have been working.

Street Pastors have been commended by the Borough Council and the Police and they are viewed as a positive and welcome part of the night time economy both by the proprietors of the local night time venues and also the wide range of people attending them to some of whom a brief dialogue with a Street Pastor can be invaluable.
