During April there were:

  • 3 Friday night patrols
  • 3 Saturday night patrols
  • 6 Patrols totalling 30 hours of cover involving 20 Street Pastors
  • 13 pairs of flip-flops given, 400 lollies and Love Hearts and 1 space blanket

Here are some of the ways Street Pastors cared, listened and helped in April:

  • Cared for a gentleman that had fallen over
  • Helped a young man
  • Stayed near to a young couple

Teams reported April as being a quiet month, however we gave out 13 pairs of flip-flops to those in need and gave lots of lollies to people that we met.

One of our teams saw a small group of people picking an older man up off the ground so we approached to see if we could offer any help. The gentleman was very unsteady on his feet having had too much to drink so we stayed with him and when he was ready, escorted him to a taxi to take him home.

Street Pastors stayed a short distance away from a young couple that was engaged in a heated discussion. Although we don’t always intervene in such circumstances, we occasionally like to remain visible a short distance away, such that one or other party can easily request support from us if they need it. Often our presence on the streets has a calming influence and on this occasion the heat eventually dissipated and the couple made their way home.

We also cared for a young man who had had too much to drink and helped him get to the taxi rank where he later met up with friends and went home together.

For the first time ever in Wantage & Grove two young men approached one of our teams and gave us two lollies as a thank you for all we have done for them! We were a little taken aback as the young men had obviously thought about this in advance and just hoped to bump into some Street Pastors that night. Thanks guys! :- )
