Starting in the middle of April, we have resumed our patrols. Initially few places were open late and not many people were out and about, so we patrolled between 8 and 11pm. As things opened up further in May we returned to our ’10 ’til late’ patrol timings. As one of our long-serving volunteers put it after his first patrol for 14 months:

“We had some good conversations about how they had coped and what they were looking forward to doing this year. It seems that the lockdown has made people more aware of the freedom we used to take for granted and there is a sense that we need to treasure the ordinary. …. the few people who had overindulged were being looked after by friends. The majority of people seemed to be in groups. From our point of view it was a good night.”

Well done Winchester!
