Winchester Street Pastors
Welcome to the Winchester Street Pastors site. We offer reassurance, safety and support to all people working in or enjoying our city’s night time economy through caring, listening and helping. Although we are an independent charity, we work closely with the local Police, Winchester BID and Winchester City Council to help make our city safer at night.
All Street Pastor groups are part of a national team first pioneered by the Ascension Trust in 2003, and Street Pastors continues to grow throughout the UK and across the world. Our first patrol in Winchester went out in 2011 after being commissioned at the Cathedral on 21st June. We train and commission new Street Pastors and Prayer Pastors every year.
Street Pastors are trained volunteers from fifteen local churches who care about the community in Winchester. Our volunteers are on duty from 10pm to 3am, every Friday and Saturday night. We stop and chat to anyone we meet while providing a peaceful presence on the night-time streets.
Our Prayer Pastors are a vital part of our evening patrol teams, praying for the city and providing prayer for the Street Pastors and those that they meet during the evening, as well as keeping the kettle on for our break!
Our wonderful coordinator, Mark, organises all the patrols, training, and recruitment. He works closely with coordinators from other cities to share expertise.
If you want to know more about what we are doing in Winchester, or are interested in becoming a Street Pastor, please contact us.
We take our strength and inspiration from the story of the Good Samaritan – Luke 10:25-37.
