Yeovil Street Pastors (the church in action on the streets of Yeovil) started patrolling the town centre streets in April 2009 as part of a national team first pioneered by Ascension Trust in 2003, which continues to grow throughout the UK and across the world.

As trained volunteers from local Christian congregations in the Yeovil area, we have a concern for our community and operate in teams to help people (especially younger adults) feel safe at night-time venues and provide caring assistance where necessary. Our comprehensive training programme is designed to fully equip new Street Pastors to respond to the needs of all the people with whom they engage on the streets.

We currently have 49 Street Pastors and 20 Prayer Pastors. Whilst we cover every Friday & Saturday night from 10pm to 4am, we talk to and help people, remove bottles from the streets, hand out lollipops and provide flip flops to girls, often at the end of the night when they struggle to keep their shoes on.

Though our Christian faith is at the heart of why and what we do, it is not at the forefront of what we say – we offer a practical demonstration of God’s love. We bring the presence of God onto our streets, which we hope will make a difference.

Prayer is an essential part of what we do and whilst the Prayer Pastors are back at base praying (in 2-way contact with the team on patrol via mobile phone) the team on patrol are often praying on the streets.
